Inspired by the iconic work of Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto, the organic tasting table reflects the fluidity and softness of his celebrated vase. Our design team drew from these natural, free-form lines to create a piece that sits harmoniously within the nature-inspired setting at Sisu Wines, Coal River Valley Tasmania.

The tabletop is crafted from Australian spotted gum, combining a solid shark-nose curved edge with a precisely detailed spotted gum veneer inlay. This layered construction highlights both craftsmanship and material integrity. The base structure features steel legs wrapped in spotted gum veneer, visually grounding the piece while maintaining visual lightness. Every detail, including the technical screw-bolt connection, the steel frame and the positioning of the legs have been designed by our team. The consistent use of spotted gum connects the table to the building’s exterior cladding, creating a cohesive material language.

With its organic three-point tabletop and playfully offset legs, the table introduces movement and softness into the cellar door. It operates as both functional object and sculptural centrepiece. The flowing geometry encourages gathering from multiple sides, fostering a sense of community and shared experience.

More than a tasting area, the table embodies Sisu’s values of community, connection, and warmth. It anchors the cellar door as an inviting, welcoming space where visitors can experience Tasmania’s landscape and wines in a setting defined by thoughtful design and material authenticity.
